Day One

For my good deed today, I went into my local coffeehouse and wrote a note of praise for two of the employees to be given to their manager.  I commended them for the great job they do every day.

  1. i love this idea. my good deed for today was to post this blog’s link to twitter to spread the word. :)

  2. Great idea Marina! I will pass the word.
My good deed for today was helping someone who is difficult.

    • Thanks Diane – for your kind comment, passing the word around, and helping someone out!

  3. Thank you, Marina, for perpetuating good deeds. My good deed was to make a salad and attend a community organic dinner at the church (instead of staying in my cocoon at home). A woman spoke about Slow Food. I talked to her afterwards about a possible internship for my daughter.

One good deed leads to another!

    • Good for you, Mary. Feeding people and getting out of your “cocoon” all at once!

  4. What a wonderful idea. You inspired me to simply hold the door for a delivery man with a heavy load entering a restaurant. He said, “Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness, Miss.” Now at 57 years old, I’m not often called “Miss,” so it made my evening, too.

    • It looks like he brightened your day a bit as well. Hurray!

  5. Hi Marina – this is a great idea to get the movement of one good deed a day really going. I love the twitter idea.
I offerend to help new tenants (a young family of 4) by reducing their first month’s rent to help with their moving expenses.

On Oprah’s “Hero Show” today (see also People Magazine), one person who was helped said that she now does at least one good deed a day to help someone else. It is catching on!

    • Thank you, and congratulations on helping a young family, I’m sure they were very thankful.

  6. What a wonderful gift to help someone who is being difficult!

  7. Inspiring!

  8. Today, I am picking up totes from three schools. the totes are used to carry backpacks full of food for the homeless children in our area that go to school. Every week the food bank puts food into the bags, enough for the student for over the weekend to eat. The students return the empty backpacks to their school. I pick-up and take to Food Bank to fill up and deliver on Thursdays. I do this every Wednesday. My day one…let’s see what I can do tomorrow!!!! Weeeeeeee!!!!

  9. Also, sent to all my email friends and YAHOO Groups.

  10. Today was wonderful, as I babysat for my 6 month old grandson. I cleaned their kitchen (which looked… like it needed cleaning!) While I helped my daughter and son-in-law out, I also benefitted by having the chance to spend time with Noah- he is a wonderful little baby boy.

  11. Today my good deed was simpy taking grocery carts back to the store along with my own. I also talked to and listened to a young neigbor about her middle school challenges and what to do about bullies.

    • A simple kind act. It’s great you showed compassion and support to your young neighbor. Bravo!

  12. I posted this blog on my Facebook page in hopes that it will catch on. What fun! Spreading the word!

  13. I received an urgent call this AM. The delivery guy for the Food Bank did not show up to deliver food to the homeless kids at 8 local schools. I was asked to do the driving and I did. There where lots of new things to learn and new places to go to for me. While at one of the schools, I watch a line of 2nd/3rd graders walking. I stayed out of their way and some of the kids smiled and waved at me. My heart took flight to see the light in their young eyes and their smiles were heavenly. What a joy it was to me!

  14. I wrote to our two US Senators thanking them for supporting the credit card reform: the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights. Here’s what I said: “This is a big win for consumers and a big loss for banks that make money by tricking people into taking on more debt than they can afford. We need Congress to stand with regular folks like me this year if we’re going to get our economy back on track, and our Senators’ support is paramount in this fight.
“It’s great to have senators representing us the way you consistently choose to act. Thanks so much for your support!”

  15. I took care of some last minute paper work and errands for my daughter so that she would leave town without stress.

  16. I donated a homemade cowboy hatband to auctioned off at a charity fund raiser auction to raise money for kids that need tutoring.

  17. Over the three day weekend…I cancelled my camping plans and went out of state to visit my eldery father instead of the camping trip. He was so surpirsed and so thankful for our visit. We had a very nice time re-connecting.

  18. Over the weekend, we were invited to a Memorial Day barbeque. When I called the day before, I asked what I could do to help. My friends hadn’t made it to Costco to buy the ground beef, kielbasa dogs or buns. I volunteered to go buy it for them, and did so amongst the throngs of shoppers flooding Costco the day before the 3 day weekend, and saved my friends the stress after a difficult week at work.

  19. Today as my good deed, I sponsored a girls softball team by supplying them with practice t shirts.
It feel so good to help other people! We are ALL connected!
